Well I need to finish up my French Polynesia report as we have already arrive in China. As my mind will grow weaker of these great Islands and Atolls. We wrapped up last time saying good bye to Hiva Oa and sailing on to Tahuata. Now I must apologize if I am getting these islands mixed up and in the wrong order nobody but our fellow passengers will have any ideal of where I have gone wrong.
Arriving in Hiva Oa and it was decided that we would travel with Frank,Hinanu and Danny to the other side of the island to see the giant tikki's. Frank would not let me drive so I had to be a patient passenger which as many of you know I am not good at.The switch backs and high cliffs made for a great ride one wrong turn and we would surely have died.Frank decided he would take a phone call while we were decending the cliffs I quickly grabbed the phone and handed it to Hinanu. We arrived the giant tikki's after stopping at a local store for some ice cream. There were only three other people here today. The tikki's are rather like the ones found on Easter Island I am told as I have not seen them YET. We scoped out the site and you can see pictures on this site.Having had our fill of giant Tikki's we drove to a local "pension" or Bed and Breakfast to have a bite to eat. We tricked Joy into eating goat and had some tasty lemonade.Back on the road we zig zag back over the mountain back to town to see Paul Gauguin's grave.Packing it in we headed back to Aranui to sat sail for our return to Ua Pou to pick up the containers we left there on the first stop of our trip.
This is where you lose me in this story I must have drank some bad water at the "pension" as I became deathly ill not even able to leave our room for the day missing on my chance to say good bye to the Marquesas Islands I guess I will have to return one day.
Our day at sea was relaxing on the deck as I had returned from the dead but now Joy was suffering a bit. She spent the day reading on the balcony of our room.I attened our Marquesas class learning more about French Polynesia.Funny all my life I just thouht an Atoll was another word for an island....but more of a word for was is left after the island slipped back into the ocean.
Arriving Ragiroa one of the most beautiful atolls in Frensh Polynesia what a site. A paradise all to your own. The water is translucent the bay calm the ocean perfect as to send the sound of the breakers over the rest of the atoll. This is the swan song for us on MV Aranui as we had a previous flight planned before the steering gear was set for repair so we flew out of Ragiroa straight over Aranui bye our great ship.
Arriving back in Papeete we returned to the Intercontinental and then the back to the airport for our 24 hour airport marathon to Harbin China. We made it we are here. Thanks Aranui and all our new friends we had a great time!
